My heart was bursting with excitement as I cruised the 5 North from San Diego to Los Angeles. The moment I been quietly waiting for almost 7 years had finally arrived. One of my dearest friends had finally entered motherhood. I was honored to be picked as little Leo’s newborn photographer, after all, Leo’s parents know plenty of talented photographers since they run a successful marketing company in Los Angeles.
It was a rainy day in Los Angeles. Sonia, Leo’s grandmother, greeted me with a huge smile and her signature laugh. We chatted about her experience of being a new grandmother while we waited for the little man to be done with his feeding. As I admired the gorgeous light coming in through the huge window in Leo’s nursery, my dear friend Dalit walked in with this gorgeous bundle of love in her arms. She looked stunning, even though she was exhausted from a sleepless night. I already loved Leo, but when I held him for the first time, my auntie’s heart exploded with love. Dal and I chatted about her birth story and motherhood’s ups and downs. I remember sitting there, listening to her birth story and thinking to myself how proud of her I was, she had come such a long way from that day she came to San Diego to meet my first born and nervously held my tiny human for a few minutes before giving him back. A little while later, Adam, Leo’s dad, came into the nursery and lit up the room with his personality. I could tell he was completely smitten by Leo, and it turned out he is a baby whisperer! If Leo fussed, daddy would help him sooth right away. It was awesome seeing these wonderful humans become parents. They have been through so much together and there is no doubt in my mind that they will raise some pretty awesome humans. Between the clicks of my camera, stories and snuggles, the hours on that rainy afternoon went by rather fast. I wanted to stay longer, but my little ones were waiting for their momma. I wish we lived closer so we could see each other more often.
Dalit and I have done life together, we been friends since High School and no matter how far away we live from each other or how many months go by without seeing each other, we always find a way to connect. Dal, you hold such a special place in my heart, and now my love for you has multiplied! I am so proud of you, you are on amazing momma!
